We Finally Know For Sure If Arthur Killed Sophie Or Not In 'Joker' and We're Glad About It

It's been weeks and people still can't seem to stop talking about Joker and I'm definitely not complaining. The movie was brilliant, Joaquin Phoenix was incredible in it, and it's the kind of movie that stays with you for a while after you watch it.

I'm pretty sure people had a lot of questions about the movie after they watched it, but the biggest question that almost everyone had was 'what the hell happened to Sophie?'

We saw Sophie and Arthur having an incredible relationship and he appeared to be truly content with her, however then came the uncover. It was all in his mind!

It was probably the best snapshot of the film when it was uncovered that Arthur envisioned the whole relationship he had with Sophie. That is to say, I'm kinda happy in light of the fact that they began dating after he pursued her wherever throughout the day. On the off chance that anybody does that, they don't get a sweetheart, they get a controlling request!

Returning to the scene, we can see that Arthur is totally over the edge after his 'awful day' when he appears at Sophie's condo and when she's so terrified to see him, it's conspicuous they're just neighbors.
But, the next part was left pretty ambiguous in the movie. Arthur is shown walking in the hallway and we're left in the dark about Sophie's fate. A lot of people were convinced that he killed her since flashing lights can be seen in the distance as he's walking away.

Mostly people were adamant that he spared her life since she hasn't done anything to him, she 'didn't deserve' it. And guess what? That's exactly right.
Lawrence Sher, the movie's cinematographer, has finally cleared up all the confusion once and for all.
In a meeting with Slash Film, he stated, "We needed to make the elucidation of the genuine versus what's not genuine, a piece of the watcher's understanding. For example, his association with Sophie is a dream to him. A few people have asked me, 'Was she slaughtered?' [Director Todd Phillips] makes it obvious she wasn't murdered. Arthur is executing individuals who've wronged him with a specific goal in mind, and Sophie never wronged him. As far as what we did outwardly to play with the genuine and not genuine, there are callbacks and scenes that mirror one another."

He included, "We leave insights utilizing symbolism or way we secured scenes correspondingly between scene. Outside of that, I like that individuals can have a discussion and arrived at their very own decisions."
See, it's a simple answer and it's pretty clear he didn't kill her since he lets Gary go after killing Randall right in front of him in the most gruesome way possible.
At the end, he literally spells it out for everyone as well when he says that people 'get what they deserve'.

Everyone can finally put the Sophie debate to rest now.
